Andrew Campbell is an Australian fantasy author writing comedic, action‑driven stories filled with irreverent humour, chaotic magic, and characters who somehow survive the messes they create. Born in Newcastle and now based in Brisbane, Andrew blends a sharp, quick‑witted voice with heartfelt emotional layers that give his worlds both punch and depth.
Andrew’s love of storytelling began in childhood, when he spent afternoons transcribing episodes of Transformers and G.I. Joe from worn VHS tapes before writing his own “episodes.”
A lifetime later, an unexpected hospital stay in 2024 forced him to confront the question: If this was the end, had he done what he set out to do? The answer was no — and the path forward was writing. He has been committed to the craft ever since.
His work has earned professional recognition, including winning the Queensland Writers Centre’s Right, Left, Write competition and longlistings for both the Hawkeye Manuscript Development Prize and QWC Publishable.
When he isn’t writing, Andrew draws on his background in engineering science and mechanical design to build worlds with structure, logic, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. His author mission is simple: write fun, emotionally resonant stories with characters readers genuinely care about — and make them laugh along the way.

Andrew Campbell is an Australian fantasy author whose work blends comedic chaos, sharp action, and heartfelt emotional depth. Known for his quick‑witted voice and irreverent humour, Andrew writes stories where magic is unpredictable, heroes are reluctant, and the funniest moments often happen right before everything goes terribly wrong.
Born in Newcastle, Andrew grew up in the golden age of 1980s adventure cartoons. His earliest writing attempts involved transcribing episodes of Transformers and G.I. Joe from a battered VHS tape — pausing, rewinding, scribbling dialogue, and eventually writing his own “episodes.” Long before he knew the term fan fiction, he was already doing it.
As a teenager, Andrew’s enthusiasm for fantasy collided with an unexpected antagonist: an English teacher who dismissed the genre as “stupid” and told him to stop writing it. The comment stuck. For years, Andrew carried the quiet weight of that dismissal, writing less and less until life pulled him into a different path entirely.
He earned a degree in engineering science and built a career in mechanical design and project engineering across heavy manufacturing, aerospace compliance, and fabrication environments. The work was technical, precise, and demanding — but the spark for storytelling never fully went out.
Everything changed at Christmas in 2024. Struck down with appendicitis and lying in a hospital bed, Andrew found himself confronting a blunt, uncomfortable question: If this was it, had he done what he set out to do? The answer was immediate and painful: no.
What did he want?
He wanted to write.
His thoughts drifted back to childhood — to fun without limits, to adventure without permission, to stories that made the world feel bigger. When he left the hospital, he made a promise to himself: write every day, or as close to it as life allows.
Within his first year of committing fully to writing, Andrew sold two short stories to small online fiction platforms. Those sites have since disappeared, but the stories themselves live on — now archived on his Substack, where readers can still find the early sparks of the voice he continues to develop today. Those first sales were a powerful confirmation that the decision he made in that hospital bed was the right one: the stories mattered, and readers wanted more.
Since then, Andrew has been building the Godborn Series, a collection of action‑packed comedic fantasy novellas filled with magic, mayhem, and characters who are equal parts disaster and delight. His writing balances chaos with emotional resonance, weaving heartfelt moments into fast‑paced, humour‑driven storytelling.
Andrew’s personality mirrors his writing: funny, sarcastic, quick‑witted, and deeply approachable. He aims to create stories that connect with readers on an emotional level while delivering plenty of laughs, unexpected twists, and characters who feel like chaotic friends you can’t help rooting for.
Looking ahead, Andrew plans to complete the first set of Godborn novellas before expanding into a duology and several stand‑alone fantasy novels. He also hopes to explore sci‑fi or contemporary fiction as creative palate cleansers between fantasy projects.
Today, Andrew embraces his identity as a comedic storyteller and Australian indie fantasy author. His mission is simple: write fun, emotionally layered stories with characters readers genuinely care about, and make the journey unforgettable.
